Gutierrez joined Marathon Oil Corporation in 1999 after serving as chief of staff to South Texas lawmakers in the Texas House of Representatives. He currently serves as Senior Manager of Government and Community Relations where he leads the company’s political and community engagement. He is currently responsible for Marathon’s lobbying activities in Texas, New Mexico and Washington D.C.
Gutierrez’s dynamic role advocating Marathon's interests within the executive and legislative branches of government has taken him to numerous state capitols and jurisdictions including Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota, Arkansas, Alaska, California, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Washington D.C. and abroad in Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Chile and the United Kingdom.
Gutierrez was born in McAllen where he attended public schools and grew up in Reynosa, Mexico. He graduated from Texas State University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication-Public Relations.
