Ancira founded J. Ancira Strategies, a Texas public policy advocacy firm in April 2016. Ancira Strategies provides traditional bipartisan lobbying, intelligence gathering and consulting services for its clients.
Ancira is the former mayor for the City of Taylor, serving as mayor for four of his six years on the City Council. For four of his seven years on the speaker's staff, Ancira was chief of staff for the Texas Speaker of the House where he also served as general counsel, ethics advisor and senior policy advisor on taxes and economic development.
Ancira is a former special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He also served as tax counsel for two private-sector consulting firms specializing in sales tax, franchise tax and property tax issues.
He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting from Texas State University in 1987 and a juris doctorate from The University of Texas School of Law in 1995. He is past president of the Taylor Independent School District Board of Trustees and the Literacy Council of Williamson County. He is a 2012 inductee into the Taylor Duck Hall of Fame and is a recipient of the Taylor Rotary Club’s 2012 Citizen of the Year.
